Insurance Guidelines
Sunshine Global Logistics Offers Enhanced Cargo Insurance Program
- Coverage is on professionally-packed items shipped with SGL
via Motor Freight, Padded Van Lines, Air Freight, and International
Air or Ocean.
- This coverage also applies on Household Goods shipped by Motor
Freight, provided the items are professionally packed.
- All shipments must be professionally packed suitable for the transit
envisioned, using industry-standard materials and proper packaging
technique. In the event of a claim, if the Underwriters or Surveyors
believe that the loss or damage occurred as a result of inadequate
or improper packaging, the claim will be denied. In this case, the
injured party may seek compensation from the packer.
- Coverage is underwritten by Arch Insurance.
- Insurance will be billed as a separate line item on shipment invoice.
- Maximum insurance value per shipment is $75,000.
- Current Appraisals or Sales Receipts required prior to shipments
of Antiques, Artwork, Electronics, etc. with value in excess of $1,000.
- Parcels with a value over $10,000. MUST be approved prior to shipment
being made.
- Wooden crates with adequate inside packaging required on Glass,
Ceramics, Tabletops, Porcelain, Marble, Concrete, Stone of any kind.
- Wooden crates with adequate inside packaging required on any item
with a value over $2,000.
- Fragile/breakable items with a value greater than $500 must be
double boxes with a minimum of 2-3” of cushioning surrounding
the inner box. Each item must be individually protected and cushioned
in the center of the inner box.
- Jewelry valued at $500 or more must be boxes in a container at
least 8 x8 x 8 an dsent via a traceable service with signature required.
The address label must not reveal the contents of the box and should
be sent from or to an individual, not to a jewelry business.
- For multi-piece shipments, unless noted at time of shipment, claims
will be paid as if each box was valued at same amount. (i.e. 10 boxes,
total shipment insured for $1,000., therefore each box valued at
$100.)
- Claims MUST be submitted to SGL within 60 days after date of shipment.
- “Short” claims are paid only if a list of contents
and values were supplied to SGL at time of shipment.
- Liability is limited to the reasonable cost of repair or replacement
with like item.
- To avoid loss, multiple piece or palletized freight shipments
must be addressed individually.
- Any shipment valued in excess of $500 going to a person in a multi-tenant
building such as apartment houses, dorms, fraternity or sorority
houses, etc. must travel by traceable shipping service and a legible
signature is required.
Exclusions -
- Excludes loss or damage to furs, cash, notes, stamps, manuscripts,
deeds, tickets, travelers checks, jewelry, watches or similar valuable
articles.
- Excludes shipment of hazardous goods.
- Sets & Pairs (If an individual piece of a set is damaged or lost,
the actual cash value of that piece will be paid, not the value of
the entire set.)
- Electrical, electronics or mechanical damages is excluded unless
there is evidence of external damage to the insured item or its packaging.
- Excludes damage by climatic or atmospheric conditions or extreme
temperature.
- Excludes loss due to moth, vermin, wear, tear and gradual deterioration.
- Excludes items that are not professionally packed.
- Excludes shipment of gem stones and precious metals in the raw; automobiles;
model ships, model airplanes, architecture models or the like, encased
or not encased; perishable food and/or agricultural products; neon
signs.
- Excludes any shipment to Mexico
Coverage Is Valid Only If -
- Reporting is Timely
- Shipment Travels Under SGL Program
- Shipment is Professionally Packed Suitable for Transit
- Freight Bill Including Insurance Is Paid Within Terms
The Policy Underwriters shall make final determination in the outcome of any
claims.
